Journos condemn violent police behavior

PESHAWAR:  Khyber Union of Journalists (KuJ) and the Peshawar Press Club have condemned the rude and violent behavior of police after a local journalist was beaten up.


Ziaul Haq, ARY TV bureau chief was thrashed by cops Thursday in the presence of Superintendent of Police Khalid Hamdani, reports said.


In a hurriedly called meeting at the press club Thursday, the journalists demanded that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Inspector General of Police and the Information Minister take action against the policemen involved in the incident.


The meeting decided to boycott the police and a hold a protest. In this connection, another meeting was convened on Friday (November 2) at the Press Club.


President of Peshawar Press Club Saif-ul-Islam Saifi, KuJ head Arshad Aziz Malik, senior journalists Shamim Shahid, Agha Baqir and Ziaul Haq attended Thursday’s meeting.
